Backend / Research Engineer
Own green-field systems at the core of Thine’s ambient-context AI — above all the context-management and long-term memory engine that turns everything a user says, hears and sees into instant, personal assistance.
About Thine
Thine is built by Foyer Tech, the team behind Merlin AI — a research-and-content platform used by more than 2 million people (900k+ Chrome installs). Backed by The Newlands Fund (ex–Sequoia Partners), Dharmesh Shah (HubSpot), Better Capital, Maninder Gulati (CSRO, OYO), Kirti Varun (ex-CPO, Meesho) and others.
Thine is an always-on system that captures and reasons over everything users say, do, hear and see, turning ambient context into instant assistance across devices. It records meetings, lectures and stray ideas; transcribes, identifies speakers and pulls out action items; and feeds every recording into one continuous long-term memory you can talk to.
We’re a small, fast-shipping team in Bangalore working on deep tech problems. What you build ships in days, not quarters.
The Role
You’ll work at the seam of backend systems and applied AI research: designing and building the memory engine that everything in Thine depends on, and running the experiments that tell us whether it actually got better.
Sample Projects
- Own green-field systems at the core of ambient-context AI.
- Build the world’s best context-management and long-term memory engine: ingestion, representation, retrieval and reasoning over a person’s whole history.
- Expand AI assistance into mobile, macOS and other form factors for truly ubiquitous assistance.
- Ship features weekly to millions of users and measure impact immediately.
- Shape products that understand and simplify everything people say, do, hear and see.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong backend engineering: you design and run production services, data models and pipelines, not just notebooks.
- Hands-on with LLMs, retrieval / RAG, embeddings, knowledge graphs or memory systems.
- A research temperament: you form hypotheses, build evals, read papers and let the numbers decide.
- End-to-end ownership, from idea through deployment and measurement.
- Driven by hard technical problems. This is an intense, high-ownership environment, not a 9-to-5.
Nice to Have
- Speech, audio or speaker-identification experience.
- Published research, strong open-source work or serious personal projects.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary + meaningful equity.
- Small team, high velocity, high ownership.
- Very hard problems whose solutions don’t exist yet.
- Opportunity to travel to the US and embed in the SF ecosystem.
