Bijli.in is building the PhonePe for India's Energy Stack — a P2P energy trading platform that lets rooftop solar owners sell surplus power directly to nearby consumers at market-discovered prices. Backed by Hindustan Power Group (Moser Baer family), working with Nandan Nilekani's FIDE and the India Energy Stack Task Force.

India is installing 1 crore rooftop solar systems under PM Surya Ghar Yojana and millions of smart meters simultaneously. P2P energy trading is about to become real — UP, Delhi, Karnataka, and Kerala already have draft regulations.

The Role

You'll be the first senior technical hire, building the platform and engineering team from scratch. This is a true 0→1 play — architecting a real-time energy marketplace from the ground up.

What You're Building

Think financial exchange, but for electrons:

  • Smart meter integration across multiple vendors and protocols
  • DISCOM billing and reconciliation (multi-state, multi-regulator)
  • AI-driven demand/generation forecasting per household
  • Automated trading agents that match buyers and sellers
  • UPI-linked digital wallets for daily settlement
  • Battery storage integration for 24/7 trading, demand flexibility, carbon credits

The Technical Challenges

  • Real-time marketplace dynamics — price discovery, order matching, settlement at household scale
  • Multi-DISCOM integration — different states, regulations, and billing systems
  • Smart meter data pipelines — millions of meters, multiple protocols, real-time ingestion
  • Forecasting — per-household generation and consumption prediction
  • Regulatory compliance — state-by-state P2P trading rules and metering standards
  • Scale — eventually pan-India, cross-DISCOM, millions of prosumers and consumers

What We're Looking For

  • 8-14 years of engineering experience
  • Built and scaled a consumer-facing platform or marketplace from early stage
  • Strong system design — can architect a real-time trading platform
  • Has hired and led engineering teams
  • Hands-on — will write code while building the team
  • Ex-founder or CTO of a funded startup strongly preferred
  • Experience with real-time systems, event-driven architectures, or trading platforms a plus
  • NCR-based or willing to relocate

Compensation

Up to ₹3 crore cash.
