P2P energy trading platform — the PhonePe for India's Energy Stack
About
Bijli.in is building the PhonePe for India's Energy Stack — a P2P energy trading platform that lets rooftop solar owners sell surplus power directly to nearby consumers at market-discovered prices.
##The Opportunity
India is installing 1 crore rooftop solar systems under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and millions of smart meters are going in simultaneously. For the first time, every household becomes a potential energy producer AND consumer. But today, surplus solar gets sold back to DISCOMs at rock-bottom rates. P2P trading changes this: prosumers earn significantly more, consumers pay less than grid rates, and DISCOMs earn wheeling charges without buying a single unit. States like UP, Delhi, Karnataka, and Kerala already have draft P2P regulations.
##What They're Building
A full-stack energy trading platform: smart meter integration across multiple vendors/protocols, DISCOM billing and reconciliation, AI-driven demand/generation forecasting per household, automated trading agents, and UPI-linked digital wallets for daily settlement. Think of it as building a financial exchange — but for electrons. The technical challenges are real-time marketplace dynamics, multi-DISCOM integration, regulatory compliance across states, and eventually battery storage for 24/7 trading.
##Traction & Credibility
- Demoed to PM Modi at the AI Summit
- Working with Nandan Nilekani's FIDE and the India Energy Stack (IES) Task Force
- IES is the "UPI for energy" initiative making every energy asset identifiable and transactable
- Backed by Hindustan Power Group (Moser Baer family)

##The Founder
Arman Puri, 28. Berkeley grad, spent 10 years in the Bay Area. Previously founded a gaming company (sold in 2023), then spent 1.5 years in venture investing before starting Bijli. Grandfather started Moser Baer — energy is in the family DNA.
##Stage & Setup
Self-funded, greenfield build. Based in NCR. This is a 0-to-1 play — the Head of Engineering will be the first senior technical hire, building the platform and team from scratch.
