Senior Role Overview

We're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our fast-paced team to design, develop, and implement new features for Little Bird, our personalized AI teammate for Mac and Android. This position reports directly to the technical leadership team and will play a crucial role in designing and implementing critical BE features and infrastructure as we grow.

Our team is well-funded >$4m, small and growing - this is a great time to join and contribute to foundational aspects of our growth! Little Bird is remote-first(with majority of team in US and India); we speak a few languages, love to collaborate, and like to build things that we enjoy using. Our co-founders have experience building data, consumer hardware, and interactive products, including selling a previous venture for >$250m.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with R&D and Leadership to design scalable architecture
Develop and maintain backend services that support AI features including search, informational retrieval, RAG, Knowledge Graph
Build systems with a focus on performance, accuracy and scale
Understand and enforce security best practices across our infrastructure

Required Skills

Minimum of 4 years of hands-on software development experience with a strong professional experience with Python, and ideally a compiled language(Golang, Rust, C, etc.) as well. Typescript experience would be a plus.
Passion for working on problems involving concurrency, data retrieval (internet-scale), and performance tuning in complex systems.
Ability to autonomously work on weakly defined projects that require an experiment-driven and collaborative mindset
Excellent verbal and written communication skills(send us your blog, Github etc), we’re a remote team and a lot of our async communication happens in writing(PR reviews, Notion docs, Slack, Linear etc.).
You care about both product and code quality.

Bonus skills

Experience with Django and Temporal
Prior startup experience, shipping products 0-1 and/or owning major parts of a production-grade codebase
Experience leading architectural discussions, discussing tradeoffs, designing integrations and test plans
Infrastructure, DevOps and SRE experience
Experience with a functional programming language
React and Frontend tech
